The law on Development and Protection of Industrial Property in Mexico permits patents on ther follwoing:

Biotechnological procedures and products resulting from them in the industries manufacturing pharmaceutical chemicals, medicine in general, food and beverages for animal consumption, fertilizers, insecticides, herebicides, fungicides and products with biological activity such as hotmones and vaccines.(a patent on this does not automatically provide for the right to market but only the right to prevent third parties from using it without his/her consent.)
